    Hi all,

I am a new teacher who recently started teaching English FAL. I find myself in a difficult situation. The learners that I am teaching have tremendous gaps in their language ability. The greatest diffficulty is with grade 10 learners, some are 19 and 20 years old. The school is caters to the poorest in the area. The majority of these learners lack basic language skills. Most cannot even read at primary school level.

As with so many schools, ours is over populated. There are between 50 and 60 learners per class. This factor is not one that can be changed at the present moment.

It is my aim to see that these teenagers develop the skills they need to make a success in their lives. Does anyone have a suggestion for a remeidial programme that I could use with them. We have implemented a study and tutor session after school. I get to spend 2 hours with each grade 10 class in a 2 week cycle.

I am trying some of my own ideas but I would love to hear from those with more experience.
